The Ford Bronco Could be Much Closer to the Jeep Wrangler

The new Ford Bronco is on its way and it will be offered with an automatic transmission when it arrives on the market.

Ford has made it so that the Bronco that we’ve seen in testing and on the stage at different auto shows is an SUV that feels more like another crossover model that will be added to the number of models that Ford offers. Even though this new Bronco model is expected to bring an automatic transmission, there might be another alternative on the way.

Partnering with Getrag for Another Transmission

One of the aspects of the Jeep Wrangler that we’ve always admired is the manual transmission. Because of this, Ford may be looking to Getrag to build a manual transmission for the 2020 Ford Bronco. This new transmission, called the MT-88, will be a seven-speed manual gearbox that could be attached to the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine that we love from Ford. This means we could have a lot of power and the ability to row our own gears when it’s time to get behind the wheel and take this Bronco for a drive.

What Does that Mean for the Bronco?

The engine that’s being considered for the job, the EcoBoost V6, is one that makes more than 300 horsepower for your drive. That’s an amazing number for an engine of this size, but with the engine technology of today, not a real surprise. This means you could have an off-road capable SUV with a name you love and admire that has more power than the Wrangler and is equipped with a manual transmission. Imagine how much fun you could have on the trails with a Bronco that engages you with the ride you want to enjoy.

Silence from Ford

As you would expect, Ford hasn’t shared information regarding the use of a manual transmission so far. The company has made it their policy to try and remain silent regarding future products rather than give us an idea of what they are planning. This policy certainly allows us to become more interested in what will be the future of what the Bronco will offer us when it’s time to get behind the wheel and take a ride. There’s no doubt the Bronco will be able to compete on the level of the Wrangler when it arrives.
