It turns out that there are certain driver stigmas associated with our favorite brands and models that we know and understand.
Some drivers choose their car based on their budget, others stick to available features, while some just go with what looks right at the time.
Of course, these car stigmas are just silly stereotypes, but it never hurts to have a good laugh at yourself every once in a while.
Here are some of the most common car stigmas associated with your favorite car brands. Of course, not all stereotypes are based on reality, so don’t take these jabs too seriously.
Ford
If you look at the most commonly searched questions regarding Ford drivers on Google, you’ll find people across the country want to know “why are Ford drivers so angry?” Maybe this relates to the squealing tires of beasts like the Mustang or the ability to tackle any terrain with a Bronco. Regardless, Ford drivers tend to appear more aggressive on the road.
BMW
BWM drivers tend to have a reputation for being a little arrogant. Based on a survey from the British insurance company Go Compare, BWM owners are seen to be aggressive and rude on the road. It only makes sense that BMWs would take up an additional parking spot here and there since this manufacturer’s slogan used to be “Sheer Driving Pleasure.” You’d drive fast, too, if you had something that looked this good at such high speeds.
Dodge
You can probably blame to Duke brothers for creating the speed-loving reputation Dodge drivers have today. Drivers tend to get out of the way when they see a Dodge coming up in their rearview mirrors. Can you blame them? With such iconic models as the Charger, Challenger, and Camaro, people tend to stop and stare as it is. Plus, it’s probably best to steer clear of anyone who thinks their Grand Caravan belongs on the raceway.
Audi
Google polls seem to suggest that pedestrians believe Audi drivers are a bit smug. While Audi vehicles probably earn the driver some extra self-esteem points, it’s tough to take these speedsters too seriously. Audi drivers tend to be younger and less wealthy when compared to those who own an Aston Martin or Mercedes. It’s true that everyone can look good in an Audi; we wish drivers would spend less time checking themselves out in the mirror and more time focusing on the road ahead.
Toyota
Toyota may make some of the most practical and economical vehicles on the market, but drivers tend to be seen as somewhat boring. Ok, reliability isn’t necessarily sexy, but that doesn’t mean that every Toyota driver doesn’t crave adventure. It’s just that these thrill-seekers probably have a different brand of car at home to handle the weekend fun.
Buick
The luxury arm of the GMC brand has a full lineup of sophisticated and loaded vehicles. Drivers of these vehicles tend to be older. In fact, the majority of Buick owners are over 60 and stick with their vehicles due to brand loyalty above all else. Everyone else on the road likes to joke about Buick drivers meandering down the highway at speeds well below the posted limit. If you’ve got the style to drive a Buick, chances are you aren’t in a hurry either.
After learning some of the most common car stigmas, you might be more aware of how you see others on the road. Just keep in mind, it’s not the car that defines you, but how you make use of it.
