The 2021 Chevrolet Corvette Creates Perpetual Christmas Eve

The 2021 Chevrolet Corvette Creates Perpetual Christmas Eve

Plagued with production problems, the 2021 Chevrolet Corvette wait is a frustrating one. 3000-status has ‘Vette buyers stuck.

Remember when you were a kid enduring those long days before Christmas? Seemed like each day was an eternity and Santa Clause might not ever make it.

Unfortunately, that’s a feeling Chevrolet Corvette fans know all too well these past two years.

What’s Going On This Time?

Plenty of poor souls are now caught in the grownup version of Christmas Eve—and have been now for quite some time.

On the heels of the godawful year that was 2020, GM, along with the rest of the world, is fighting to catch up. In a nutshell here’s the deal:

• Aftershock. Reverberations from that whole “Pandemic thing,” are still resonating.

• Part suppliers couldn’t (and still can’t) keep up

• Production has to pause with the parts

And then -boom -you’re left in Chevrolet Corvette-purchase purgatory.

Predicated by predictive analysis, the process crumbles when unpredictability ensues.

2020 was an unavoidable outlier. No one saw it coming so you can’t prepare for it. 2021 is a byproduct of dealer and shopper enthusiasm to get back to normal selling and buying their dream cars. It creates an unsustainable paradox of too much demand and supply forced to stop.

Yeah, I get it, this isn’t going to make you feel any better if you’re stuck in that “3000 Limbo.” That’s why for now, it’s best to focus on the good. Look, America’s Sports Car is on its way to you. You will get one, it’s just going to take longer than expected.

Stuck at 3000-level: Christmas Eve on Repeat

There’s a series of status codes associated with the production process. They start at 1100 and flow towards 5000—when that biggest of days finally arrives. Here’s a quick look at the Corvette Version of the Countdown to Christmas:

1100 Preliminary Order

Step one. You’ve told Santa what you want.

2000 Accepted by GM

3000 Scheduled for Production

Many “big kids” are stuck at this status. It’s frustrating to all parties involved. But the silver lining is that if you were at this level before GM’s forced work stoppage in May, your ‘Vette is coming.

3400 Broadcast

Your order’s parts are in the house. Elves are climbing the production shelves and your Chevrolet Corvette is in the works.

3800 Produced

It’s real! Your mid-engine mauler is alive and well.

4B00 Bayed

Softly snoozing, your baby is tucked away without worry, catching some z’s in Bowling Green.

4200 Statuses

GET. EXCITED!

4800 In-Transit

The 4800-status code means two things:

1. Your ‘Vette is being unloaded and readied for its ride to the final destination.

2. You haven’t slept in like three days.

5000 –Delivered. To. DEALER!

Think back to that dealership you bought your Corvette from—almost 75 years ago.

Well—it’s here!

Now your metaphorical journey into the living room is all that’s left. You might even smell a woody fragrance and hear the tinkling of ornaments as you head to the dealership.

Your day is about to become legendary.
