This Challenger is Faster than the Demon

The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Demon took our breath away, showed us a drag time that was incredible, and offered the thought of serious speed in a car that’s limited in numbers.
While the Demon took the headlines for a while as the car that could reach below ten seconds during a quarter-mile drag race, it isn’t the fastest Challenger on the market. In fact, the fastest Challenger has been around since 2009 and has been racing where it belongs since that time to give the Dodge team some racing glory.

The Dodge Challenger for Serious Racing

The Dodge Challenger Drag Pak is the model that’s been around for nearly a decade and has taken the top honors in its NHRA class. This class is called the Factory Stock class and while you might not be able to get your hands on one of these cars or have it on the road, it is an exciting car. This particular Challenger is raced in this class and in this class that requires a car the be, effectively, a factor stock car, the Challenger Drag Pak, Ford Mustang Cobra Jet, and Chevrolet Copo Camaro are all considered to be stock race cars.

The Challenger in the Video

The model of the Dodge Challenger that we see in the video below is raced by NHRA Top Fuel pilot Leah Pritchett. She is the winner of last year’s Factory Stock championship and has been a Top Fuel Dragster racer for a while. This Challenger is the first Drag Pak Challenger to wear the same appearance as the current model year of the car that we get to enjoy on the roads. This is a car that can rip off a fast time and finish a quarter-mile run in as little as seven seconds.

Distinct Differences of the Drag Pack Challenger

Even when you compare this racing Challenger to the Demon model, there are significant differences between the two cars. The Drag Pak model uses a GM transmission, a live rear axle, and has a ten-point cage, extra gauges, and switch panel on the inside. The GM transmission is the one that’s supported in the drag-racing world and the axle allows the car to be planted and handle the force and power of the car that’s getting ready to rocket down a drag strip to be the winner.

While we thought the Demon was the fastest factory Challenger that’s ever been built, the Drag Pak model proves that wrong.
