Chevrolet Is Powered Up for SEMA

Chevrolet Equinox

The annual SEMA show is where many automakers like Chevrolet show off what their different customization partners can accomplish when asked to do so.
This is the show where we’ve seen a ton of impressive specialized models over the years and for this year Chevrolet is ready with something spectacular. The Chevrolet Performance team is bringing three hot new crate motors to the show and putting them into some amazing cars to give us a look at what they can do and how much power we’re going to see when these engines get used in the future.

The LT5 Crate Engine

The new LT5 engine is the one we’ve seen in the ZR1 Corvette models. This engine is a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that can produce an amazing 766 horsepower and 715 lb.-ft. of torque for the drive. The crate of this engine packs in a direct injection port and a larger supercharger and for the SEMA show, Chevrolet has put this engine in a 1973 Laguna and added a carbon fiber hood that looks like it belongs on the ZR1. This car is also fitted with NASCAR-style front and rear spoilers to make it possible for you to have the racing look you want.

The ZZ6 EFI Crate Engine

The ZZ6 EFI engine is a 5.7-liter small-block V8 engine that brings in the benefits of electronic fuel injection and an easy installation process that can churn up to 420 horsepower. This impressive engine is being brought to the SEMA show in a 1967 C/10 pickup truck that’s been lowered and is riding on 20-inch wheels. This truck shows up with smoothed out bumpers and a smooth tailgate to give it a bit of a racing look to it. This truck and the engine will certainly turn some heads at this show.

The L96 Crate Engine

We will also see a 1978 K10 Silverado pickup truck that will be powered by the L96 engine. This engine is an HD truck-based V8 engine that’s a full 6.0-liters to offer you 360 horsepower and 380 lb.-ft. of torque for the drive. The engine is put where the 454 used to go but it offers more power, more torque, and likely much better fuel mileage than the 454 had to offer in the past. This impressive V8 is attached to a four-speed automatic transmission and the truck is adorned in black and red to give you a vehicle that looks like it’s ready to be offered on a showroom.

Chevrolet Performance Brings Even More

Along with these three crate engines that can be ordered, the Chevrolet Performance team is ready to release a wider range of gearboxes that includes a six-speed automatic that’s designed to be right for the LS/LT engine swaps that some customers may want to enjoy. While we’ve seen photos of the Laguna, we haven’t seen the other two vehicles in any pictures yet. Once the SEMA show begins, we’re certain to enjoy what the Chevrolet Performance team brings to the show.
