GMC Terrain

The GMC Terrain has a Lot in Common with a Football

Let’s take a look at the all-new, redesigned GMC Terrain and you’ll see how this crossover achieved aerodynamic superiority.
When you see the shape of a football you might realize this ball is built to cut through the air and make its way to the target. While most sports balls are round, a football is oblong and pointed to be shaped more like a dart and be able to be thrown to a target farther down the field with precision. This shape allows the football to be aerodynamically designed to reduce the amount of drag while traveling through the air on the way to the receiver in the end zone for a touchdown.

Strangely enough, an SUV from GMC has a lot in common with a football. While you’re never going to look at the GMC Terrain and think it has the same shape or aerodynamic qualities as a football, the engineers that developed the GMC Terrain spend more than 300 hours in the wind tunnel to refine every surface of the Terrain to make sure it would be as aerodynamically shaped as it could be. This was certainly no easy feat, but this team put in the work and studied every detail to offer the right size and cargo space you need while giving you the shape that would flow through the air.

Taking the GMC Terrain on the Playing Field

The playing field of the GMC Terrain is every road you travel when you’re driving around on a daily basis. The studies performed showed the team that more air could flow under the vehicle and pressurize the chassis with a lifted stance, but this added to the aerodynamic drag of the vehicle. In order to reduce this drag, the team used simulations and testing to create the guides needed to direct the air around the back of the vehicle and make it more efficient.
This attention to detail that was offered by these experts helped deliver the next chapter of the GMC design language that we’re sure to admire and enjoy to provide us with a more athletic stand for improved handling and a bold performance in the Terrain. This new style allows the SUV to offer you an increase in three mpg for the Terrain to let you have an estimated level of 26mpg combined for the AWD versions of this SUV. This means you’re going to save more fuel and let you have the comfort and drive you’re sure to admire on the road.
While a football and a GMC Terrain are vastly different in size and shape, they both benefit from an excellent level of aerodynamics for the ride you want to experience on the road. When you get behind the wheel of the GMC Terrain you can think about a football or you can simply admire the qualities offered that make this one of the most aerodynamically designed SUV models you’ll find on the road. GMC has done the work and all you need to do is enjoy the drive when you choose the right Terrain model for your driving pleasure.
