Will This Elantra Make its Way to North America?

The fact that we live in a country that has a large expanse of open area makes it possible for us to enjoy the fact that most of the areas we drive don’t require EV models to help improve the air quality that we experience. That’s not the case in some large cities we have in North America, but most of the country isn’t under smog or working through some tough air quality issues. Yes, California leads the way when it comes to the regulations in the US an is working to improve air quality by taking some cars off the roads in this state, but most of our country doesn’t have to deal with poor air quality.
The fact that states make many of the different laws regarding what can be sold in their area makes the US a unique country and one that has a ton of area to be covered. That’s not the case in most of the world where the federal government makes the laws for the entire nation without input or local laws being created, which makes it much easier for China to address their growing air quality concerns.

An Elantra has been Seen

Recently, a new Hyundai Elantra has been spied testing and it appears this version of the Elantra is the EV model that’s due to head to China. Currently, China is leading the way in the EV market with strict regulations that take place in the upcoming years and only become stricter as each year passes. As the most populated country in the world and the largest automotive market in the world, China has dealt with continued air pollution issues for many years and has begun to take steps toward solving this problem for the future.

The response from several automakers to the requirements put forth in China is to begin to ensure EV and hybrid models are created for this large automotive market. For this reason, we see the Hyundai Elantra EV being built and tested to let us see what this car will be for the country with the most people and the most cars. This new Elantra EV is expected to arrive in China in the 2019 calendar year, but will likely not be offered to the US for a few more years after the initial offering.

While we have a population that looks for EV and hybrid models for the drive on the roads in our country, most of the drivers in the US still prefer to have cars that can drive for many miles between fill-ups. Will the Elantra EV make its way to the North American market in the future? It’s likely that it will because there will be a demand for it, especially if this car is offered with a reasonable range that can give us a drive that can be experienced during an entire day on the roads away from home before being charged.
