New Mercedes GLB-Class could be coming in 2019
According to recent reports, Mercedes-Benz is currently working on a smaller version of its G-Class SUV. The new 4×4 utility model will supposedly maintain the same boxish form that the current G-Wagen has, in stark contrast to the curvaceous GLA-Class crossover.
The designers that are working on the car are allegedly working to blend the aesthetics of the G-Class with the driving dynamics of the GLA-Class in a package that is closer in size to the smaller B-Class. Despite its small size, however, the model is still expected to feature 3-row seating for up to 7 passengers.
The new model is supposedly being developed on the next-generation MFA2 architecture and will be powered by a 3 or 4 cylinder gasoline and diesel engine. A range-topping GLB45 AMG package is expected to get a twin-turbo mill with 380 horsepower.
A front-wheel-drive package geared is expected to be offered for pavement, while a 4Matic edition is said to be built for off-road use and with a unique body kit. The GLB-Class models are expected to begin production within five years, but it’s unclear which markets they will be geared towards.
