2017 Mini Clubman: A Large Small Vehicle to Drive
The lineup that Mini has provided us with over the years has given us a variety of excellent vehicles to drive that offer the British style with a throwback look we admire. one of the largest models on the market from Mini is the Clubman which is a bit different when compared to the rest of the lineup. Positioned above the Hardtop the Clubman offers you the swing-out doors you enjoy that make it more accessible while being a small vehicle with the creature comforts and fuel efficiency you’re looking for in a car that is everything you need it to be.
As you look at the creature comforts this small vehicle can give you the options offered give you choices you’ll want to enjoy. the AWD system is offered as an option on all but the JCW model in which it’s standard. You’ll also be able to choose the look you want with a variety of stripes and paint colors to choose from, LED fog lights, a navigation system, the Harman/Kardon premium audio system, a head up display, the dual pane sunroof and the availability of the automatic transmission. This is a vehicle you can have just about any way you can imagine it.
Peeking under the hood you’ll see two different engines that are offered in three different power numbers. The standard engine of the Cooper model of the Clubman is a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine that produces 134 horsepower and 162 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine is mated to either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission to give you the fuel mileage you’re looking for in either FWD or AWD to make this a vehicle you’ll love to drive on the road.
Moving up to the Cooper S you have a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that shows up with 189 horsepower and 207 lb.-ft. of torque. Finally, this engine is bumped up to be found in the John Cooper Works model with 228 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. Both of these versions use the same six-speed manual as the smaller engine but have the benefit of an eight-speed automatic transmission if you choose this vehicle with the automatic. The only drawback for these powertrains is the fact that all three require you to pump premium fuel into the vehicle to operate properly. This is a fair tradeoff for the efficiency and performance you’ll love on the Clubman.
Even though you can have a large number of options to choose from on this vehicle, if you’re looking to keep the price down, the standard offering will bring you some excellent features to enjoy. This standard list includes the Leatherette upholstery, dual zone climate controls, a 6.5-inch infotainment screen for the system, Bluetooth audio streaming, voice controls, push button starting, three drive modes; Eco, Sport and Normal and mood lighting for the interior. The Cooper S model adds sport seats, bigger wheels and tires, fog lights, chrome exhaust tips, special front end features and black leatherette upholstery.
This is the second year of the second generation of this Clubman and it’s now offered with AWD for all powertrains, which wasn’t the case in the past. The newest trim level that gives you the ride you want and the power you’re looking for is the John Cooper Works ALL4 which is loaded up with performance pieces, the most powerful engine and the AWD that will bring you an exciting ride that makes a huge difference for you when you’re looking for the right vehicle to drive and you don’t want to compromise on quality in the Clubman.
