12.20.16 - Toyota Avalon

If you want the size of a large vehicle but don’t want to drive a large SUV or learn to handle its ride height there is only one segment of the automotive world you should turn to. The full size sedan class has several good choices, but one car that stands above the rest as a car that you’ll love to drive while giving you the benefit of the smooth ride and exceptional resale value and quality you want to have in a car of this size. That car is the Toyota Avalon and when you hear the name you immediately know what I’m talking about.

The Avalon is a car that’s built for adults and offers you an impressive ride. This large sedan is roomy, comfortable, has a large truck and offers you excellent fuel efficiency while being a sedan rather than the SUV you don’t want to drive. If you want a car that’s more planted and sporty, the Touring trim adds the features you want such as larger 18-inch wheels and sport tuned suspension that makes it easy to see the benefits of driving a car that has everything you want in it.

This large sedan comes in five trim levels; XLE, XLE Plus, XLE Premium, Touring and Limited. Starting at the XLE trim you have the Safety Sense-P system, heated outside mirrors, a rearview camera, leather upholstery, smart key access, push button starting, dual zone climate controls and a 6.1-inch touchscreen. The Premium model adds a moonroof, Entune audio and the Qi wireless charging, the Touring trim brings in a navigation system and driver’s seat memory control. All trims of the Avalon are offered with ten airbags, stability controls, and whiplash resistant seats up front. You’ll love the drive in this large sedan and enjoy the ride in any package you choose.

As for the favorites on this car, it may seem strange to highlight the switches, but these capacitive touch switches are impressive and only need you to barely touch them to have the results you’re looking for. The Safety Sense-P is another favorite and is standard across the board on the Avalon. You’ll love the pre-collision warning, pedestrian detection, radar based adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams and lane departure alerts that are all part of this system. You have the benefit of automatic braking and departure steering assist to help you when you aren’t reacting fast enough.

There are two engines that are used for the Avalon. This large car is one you can have with the fuel mileage you want from the company that has perfected the hybrid system. The hybrid powertrain is a 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder hybrid engine that offers you 200 net horsepower and 156 lb.-ft. of torque form the engine while the battery offers up 199 lb.-ft. of torque. This system uses a CVT automatic and is able to provide you with 40 city/39 hwy mpg to give you the fuel mileage you’re looking for in a large car.

The base engine that you’ll find if you don’t choose one of the hybrid trims is a 3.5-liter V6 engine which provides 268 horsepower and 248 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine is attached to the six-speed automatic transmission that’s smooth and elegant. With this power pairing you’ll be able to enjoy 21 city/30 hwy mpg which is a bit of a drop from the hybrid, but it’s the base engine and is one of the most efficient base engines in the large sedan market to give you the ride and the feel you want to enjoy.
