Did You Know DMC was Still in Business?

10.26.16 - DeLorean Time Machine

Long after the issues that John DeLorean faced that shut down this company it’s still going strong. When it comes to restorations of the original DMC-12, who else would you want to trust other than the original automaker? Of course if DMC has lasted this long just restoring the original models of the DMC-12 can you imagine what might happen if they were allowed to restart production of their vehicles once again? This is a question that’s been asked and is gaining quite a positive answer to give us a chance at this iconic vehicle once again.

While the news of the company closure in the 1980s caused some unrest, the DMC-12 gained serious popularity when it was the car chosen to be the time machine in the Back to the Future series. This car could be on the verge of a comeback and we might just see more of these cars on the road in the near future. Right now, most of the DMC-12 models that are on the road are either ones that have been made into replica models of the time machine from the movie series or they are originals that were restored by DMC.

The fact that DMC has a surplus of original parts for the DMC-12 has put to thought and now to action the idea of bringing these cars back to the market for us to enjoy. DeLorean Motor Company has announced it will begin to build a new run of DMC-12 models from the original parts in the upcoming months. This allows you to be able to buy a new DMC-12 with the same features and materials as the original that was sold several decades ago. This certainly is exciting and opens the possibility of preorders for this car.

The preorder interest application has been opened up for those who are interested. This isn’t an official preorder because the options and pricing for the new run of DMC-12 models hasn’t been finalized, but those who fill out the interest application will receive the first priority when it comes time for these cars to hit the market once again. The expected cost per car will be in the range of $100,000 and it will be made from this surplus of parts that DMC has had sitting around for over thirty years. This action was supposed to take place beginning in early 2017, but setbacks from parts suppliers and regulatory boards caused serious delays.

To start with DMC will build one of these new DMC-12 models per month and then after a year they will build one per week to bring the DMC-12 back to the market. The overall goal is to build between 300 and 350 f these models over the next six years to give us several new DMC-12s on the road. Even if you didn’t know DMC was still in business, now you do and now you also know you can order a new DMC-12 by filling out the interest preorder from and get in line for the comeback of this car.
