A New Version of the Toyota Tundra is On the Way

We’ve been teased before and very rarely have we been let down. Toyota is teasing us with a new Tundra that will be offered very soon.

The current version of the Tundra has been on our North American market since 2007, which is a long time for any model. While it’s been a great truck, the time has come for a new generation of this reliable and impressive truck to emerge.

Toyota Promises a Bigger Truck

The goal for the newest version of the Tundra is to give us a bigger truck to compete with the American big three. The only way we know this is through the shadows of the teaser images that let us see what the 2022 Toyota Tundra will be with all its lights on.

These lights give us a look at a trio of small amber lights at the top of the grille, which is federally mandated on vehicles that are more than 80 inches wide. The current version of the Tundra is less than this mark, meaning these lights are not required, but it seems the new version will be at this size, making it wider than before.

Does this mean we’re going to have a heavy-duty version of the Tundra to drive in the future?

Is the New Toyota Tundra Hinting at a Performance Model?

The three lights on the top of the grille bring up many more questions than they answer. The only answer we get is that the new Tundra will be wider than the previous version, but that’s about it. If this truck will continue to be a half-ton model, will it be made to chase the Ford F-150 Raptor and Ram 1500 TRX in the performance area of the truck world? We won’t know for sure until we have a full reveal from Toyota.

What Else Can We Learn?

We don’t get to know much else about this new Tundra. The headlights are more complicated than the current version with T-shaped LED daytime running lights. You’ll see more lights on the front of this truck than what we see on a rally car ready to take on the night run in the desert.

Toyota tells us the new truck is going to bring uncompromising power and will be loaded with advanced technology. Does this mean we’re going to see more engines under the hood, a hybrid powertrain, or simply a better V8 offered? There are a lot of questions that haven’t been answered for the new Tundra.

What Should The New Toyota Tundra Include?

To compete in the current truck market with the American big three, the Tundra needs to offer several powertrains, body sizes, bed lengths, and trim levels. While many of these boxes have been ticked in the past, this truck has not been offered with multiple powertrains recently. We will see if this new Toyota Tundra takes this step forward when we see the full version of this truck later this summer.
