Soon you’ll be able to control your Hyundai using your watch

The wearable market is expected to explode this year, due in large part to the upcoming release of the Apple Watch, and many automakers are preparing themselves. One of the first to do so is Hyundai, which recently announced that an update to its Blue Link app will finally add support for Android Wear, which is Google’s official operating system for wearable devices.

“Connect to your Blue Link enabled car from your phone,” says Hyundai in the description for the app on the Google Play store. “Blue Link technology enables and empowers you while you are on the go, giving you access to your Blue Link features in your office, at home, or just about anywhere. Log into the app with your MyHyundai.com ID, Password and PIN to take advantage of Blue Link’s remote access features.”

By communicating with your smartphone, Blue Link allows owners of both an Android device and a Hyundai vehicle to control various functions of that vehicle from their smartphone or smartwatch. Users can do things from starting their vehicle, opening or closing their windows, locate the vehicle in a crowded parking lot, or even provide service information that’s specific to the vehicle.

“This new app expands Hyundai’s exploration into how wearable technology and Blue Link fit into a customer’s lifestyle,” said Barry Ratzlaff, an executive director at Hyundai, in the company’s official announcement. “Connecting to your car through a smartwatch and voice recognition was previously something seen only in science fiction movies. Now, we can provide this capability to owners of Hyundai vehicles equipped with Blue Link.”
