The next time you’re at an Acura dealer looking for a safe model, consider one of the eight new Acura and Honda models that achieved top IIHS safety ratings.
The Top Safety Pick+ award goes to the Acura Integra and MDX, while the RDX garners the regular Top Safety Pick award. All eight models also got the top Good score in an updated side crash test.
Acura and Honda Winners
A total of eight models between the two brands earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest honors of either Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ for 2024. Every model also scored GOOD in the recently updated side crash test. Acura is a luxury brand owned by Honda and its models include the AcuraWatch suite of safety tech. Honda models come with Honda Sensing.
Some of the technologies available in the suites mentioned above include Collision Mitigation, Forward Collision Warning, Road Departure Mitigation, Lane Keeping Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control. All Acura and Honda models are designed to protect occupants from front collisions as well.
The Acura award winners include the Integra, MDX, and RDX. For Honda, the Accord and HR-V received the TSP+ award. The Honda CR-V, Odyssey, and Pilot received the TSP award.
Safety Leadership
Honda is well-known for building safe and reliable cars, but the automaker also has a vision for a society where collisions don’t happen. It’s an audacious goal, but with the advent of increasingly intelligent safety tech, it’s not completely absurd to imagine such a reality. Honda operates two of the most advanced crash-test facilities in the world. One is located in Japan and the other is in Ohio.
Honda is often at the forefront of pioneering new safety technology and crash-worthy designs. Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) is an example of the automaker’s advanced passive safety features. ACE combined with front airbags provides a superior level of collision protection for a vehicle’s occupants.
The Honda Sensing and AcuraWatch suites add even more safety tech with active assistance. These systems are designed to reduce collisions in general, but also to reduce the severity of any collision that does happen. This is a step in the right direction for the future of more automated vehicles.
Honda and Acura Lineups
Honda offers a respected lineup of cars and SUVs, including the popular Civic and Accord. For buyers who still like to stick with sedans, the Accord is a great option with several trims to choose from. Honda also offers a full range of SUVs from the compact HR-V and CR-V to the midsize and larger Passport and Pilot. For those who want the versatility of a truck in a more city-friendly package, the Honda Ridgeline is a unique option.
Acura is the luxury brand of Honda and it delivers more edgy and expressive styling with an emphasis on performance. The lineup you’ll find at your Acura dealer features two sports sedans and three SUVs. Several models also offer Type S variants for even more performance. The Acura ZDX leads the way for luxury EV models from the brand.
Buyers can shop with confidence in either brand thanks to Honda’s reputation for safety and reliability.
