Will the Next Generation Bronco Be an Electric One?

When the Ford Bronco arrived back in 2020, it was the all-new, highly anticipated Bronco. This new off-road SUV brought back the desired off-road prowess.

After four years on the market, it’s just as impressive as it was when it first arrived, but what is next for this do-all, conquer-all SUV? Well, Ford has dropped some hints about an all-electric version that will come sometime around 2029.

What Does an All-Electric Bronco Look Like?

Ford is pretty tight-lipped about its future vehicles, but there have been a few hints that things just may be going in an electric direction in the future. One of Ford’s VP even went as far as suggesting a 400-mile range for a hypothetical Bronco EV.

So, when can we expect a Ford Bronco EV? Some forecasters are thinking sometime around 2029. But at this point, it’s all speculation, so we will have to wait and see.

While We Wait…

We don’t have to sit around and wait for the Ford Bronco EV to arrive, there are some exciting things going on in the much nearer future. One of these is mounting evidence about a 2025 Ford Bronco hybrid. With Jeep’s Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid a big success and Ford’s commitment to moving toward an electrified truck and SUV lineup, it only makes sense to give the Bronco a hybrid powertrain. The question of a regular hybrid or plug-in hybrid remains though, so I guess we still have to wait and see.

What About the Current Ford Bronco

If you don’t want to wait for a future Bronco, you have the current 2024 model available right now. It’s the perfect combination of SUV practicality but with all-terrain capability and some take-the-top-off fun. The 2024 Ford Bronco is available as a two-door or four-door, and you can choose between a four-cylinder gas engine or a V-6.

Inside, it has a bunch of tech features that make spending time on the road more fun. A 12-inch touchscreen houses Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to bring you all your infotainment. Integrated navigation comes standard, along with a seven-speaker stereo system. In front of the driver, a digital gauge cluster brings them all the information they need to stay informed whether they are driving on the road or off.

Speaking of Off-Road Driving

The current Ford Bronco is a beast when it comes to tackling rough terrain. Even the entry-level trim is capable, but Ford makes sure the lineup has trims with extra off-road features and equipment. Let’s take the Badlands, for example. It has an upgraded suspension, 33-inch all-terrain tires, and a front stabilizer disconnect for better wheel articulation. If this isn’t enough for you, the Everglades adds a heavy-duty front bumper and a winch kit just in case you need to pull someone or be pulled out of a tight spot. Then it also has an air snorkel, so when you have to cross through water, there’s no reason to turn back.
