Want to Keep Your Most Valuable Items Safe While You Travel? Try This Console-Mounted Safe
Keeping your wallet or cell phone in the glove compartment and hoping for the best when you have to run back into the house for something you forgot just isn’t cutting it anymore. Drivers need a safe place to lock up the valuables they travel with.
That’s why this console-mounted safe has become a must-have for some SUVs since it was released in 2021.
So what can it do to protect your valuables, what kind of vehicles have a console-mounted safe included, and where can you find them at any old GMC or Chevy dealer?
The Benefits of a Mounted Safe Compared to a Lock Box or Moveable Safe
Many people put lock boxes or small removable safes in their vehicles to combat theft issues, but these don’t work as well as mounted safes.
For one, they’re removable – someone who wants to take what you’ve put in your lock box can just take the entire box and break it open at a different location.
For another, removable safes generally have to be smaller and more lightweight – which means they can’t hold as much.
Mounted safes, while more expensive and a bit harder to install, are also bigger, sturdier, and harder to remove from a vehicle. Your valuable travel items are much easier to protect in a mounted safe.
So what is this console-mounted vehicle safe made of, and how much can it hold for you?
What is the Safe Made Of? How Much Can It Hold?
According to the manufacturer that worked with Chevy to include this safe in some of the automaker’s SUVs, the safe is made with 16 gauge steel and 1/8th inch welded steel components.
As for size, it’s 11 inches high, 16.25 inches long, and has a width of 13.62 inches – perfect for storing some of the smaller valuables people travel with, like wallets, cash, and house keys.
Now you just have to find out what vehicles and trims can use a console-mounted safe and what local dealerships you can find them at.
What Vehicles and Trims Can Use This Console-Mounted Safe? Where Can You Find Them?
If you’re looking for a vehicle with a console-mounted safe, you have a few options: the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban SUVs at your local Chevy dealer and the GMC Yukon SUV and Hummer EV in a Buick GMC dealer showroom.
But only some of the trims of the Tahoe and Suburban can have the console-mounted safe because of the power-sliding center floor console some models have.
You can get the safe in the LS, Premier, and High Country trims – but only if you opt out of the center floor console on the last two.
So if you’re interested in a console-mounted safe in your vehicle, contact your local GMC or Chevy dealer to find out how to get one installed by the dealer in a new Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, or Hummer EV today!
