Hybrid cars were once fairly rare, but now nearly every major automaker is in the hybrid game with a selection of different models. It was also once widely accepted that the Toyota Prius was the best hybrid car available, but now with so many hybrid cars to choose from, several other cars have stolen the Prius’s thunder to end up on the list of top hybrid cars. Let’s take a look.
Hyundai Sonata Hybrid
As one of the best hybrid cars on the market, the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid has a lot to offer drivers. It features a classy and spacious interior, a long list of standard features, great fuel economy, and a comfortable ride. The Sonata Hybrid never feels underpowered either with its 192-horsepower engine. It offers sharp handling and quick acceleration off the line, all while achieving up to 54 MPG on the highway.
Honda Accord Hybrid
The Honda Accord Hybrid is one of the top hybrid cars on the market thanks to its elegant and refined cabin, spacious seats, luxurious ride, and energetic handling. The Accord Hybrid doesn’t get the same fuel economy as the Sonata Hybrid, but for those who want a bit more power, it does make 212 horsepower. The Accord Hybrid ultimately has a long list of strong features, including a user-friendly infotainment system and expansive cargo space.
Toyota Camry Hybrid
The Toyota Camry Hybrid is more or less tied with the Accord Hybrid in the rankings. It offers an energetic powertrain, a generous list of standard features, great fuel economy, and a relaxed ride. The Camry Hybrid makes 208 horsepower and can get up to 53 MPG on the highway. Overall, the Camry Hybrid is a great choice versus almost any other hybrid car on the market. However, the Camry could benefit from sharper steering and fewer hard plastics in its lower trims.
Hyundai Elantra Hybrid
Compared to other hybrid cars on the market, the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid-only suffers from a rather low-quality cabin. However, it does almost everything else well. It offers excellent fuel economy with up to 56 MPG on the highway, a strong powertrain, plenty of space in the cabin, and a long list of standard features. If you’re after the most fuel efficiency among hybrid cars, it’s hard to beat the Elantra Hybrid. Compared to the other hybrid cars on this list, the Elantra Hybrid also boasts an affordable starting price of below $30,000 for all trims.
Toyota Avalon Hybrid
The other Toyota on this list is the Avalon Hybrid, which is a bit more of a luxury hybrid compared to the other hybrid cars here. The Avalon Hybrid features a spacious cabin, a large cargo area, a plush ride, and plenty of horsepowers. The main knocks against the Avalon Hybrid are its lower fuel economy compared to other hybrid cars as well as its more expensive price range.
All of these hybrid cars are good choices if you’re looking for a hybrid. The main considerations to narrow down your choice are fuel economy, cabin quality, and price.
