Which Hybrid Toyota SUV is Right for You?
Like many automakers, Toyota is focusing more on alternative fuel vehicle production. With five hybrid SUV models to choose from, including the Toyota RAV4, you may have a tough time deciding.
We’ve got a quick primer on each model below to help you figure out which Toyota hybrid SUV is right for you.
Highlander: Crowd-Pleasing Comfort
Toyota’s three-row Highlander Hybrid checks everything off the list of what you want in a family-sized SUV. It has three roomy, comfortable rows with heated front and second-row seats. And you’ll get five USB ports, two 12V power outlets, and available Qi wireless charging. So, there’s a way to keep every device charged, even in a fully-occupied Highlander.
The Highlander Hybrid includes the Toyota Safety Sense suite of driver assistance features for added peace of mind. The eight-seat SUV nets 243 combined horsepower and achieves an estimated 36 combined MPG.
RAV4: Ready for Prime Time
The Toyota RAV4 is still one of the most popular SUVs on the road today for many good reasons. Toyota continues to innovate and improve the RAV4 with its Hybrid and RAV4 Prime models. And they manage to do that without messing up the fundamentals that make it a fan favorite.
The sport-tuned Toyota RAV4 Hybrid produces a combined 219 horsepower making it a great option for dashing around the city or hitting the highway. With 37.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the back seat (and tons more when you fold them), it’s one of the best all-around SUVs available.
For drivers who like a little more oomph in their driving experience, the RAV4 Prime kicks things up with 302 combined net horsepower and a 0-60 time of 5.7 seconds. This plug-in hybrid has an EV-only range of around 42 miles and achieves 94 MPGe.
Venza: From Daily Driver to Date Night
If you’re looking for refinement, you’ll find it in the Toyota Venza. From its sophisticated silhouette to its premium interior with quality soft-touch surfaces and ambient lighting, it’s an SUV grown-ups will love. Perfect for the daily commute, the Venza achieves 39 combined MPG. And with standard electronic on-demand AWD, it goes from workweek to ski weekend.
bZ4X to the Future
The bZ4X may sound like the name of a Star Wars android than Toyota’s newest SUV. Strictly speaking, the bZ4X is not a hybrid but an all-electric SUV. The automaker revealed the upcoming SUV in November. The futuristic-looking five-seater is expected to have a range of 250 miles per full charge. It’s available all-wheel drive won’t crawl over rocks like a TRD, but it is suitable for some light off-roading. It should start appearing in showrooms in mid-2022. For drivers looking to zero out their emissions, the bZ4X might be worth the wait.
