Jeep Wrangler 4xe -Really? A Hybrid Jeep Wrangler

The last vehicle we ever thought would go hybrid is the Jeep Wrangler, but here we are with the 4xe model being offered for 2021.

This new version of the Wrangler may make some purists cry, but it does have more of the items you’re looking for and the power you need to tackle the great outdoors in a vehicle that’s built to cross any terrain.

What Does this Wrangler Use for Power?

The starting point for the 4xe Wrangler powertrain is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Add a 400-volt 17.0-kWh lithium-ion battery pack in front of the rear wheels and you have a 4WD SUV that makes use of electricity to aid the electric engine. The battery can be charged in 2.5 hours using a Level 2 fast charger and you can still travel through 30 inches of water without worrying that the water will enter the batterypack.

Two electric motors are used to give this SUV more power and bring the horsepower to 375 ponies for you. The torque reaches 470 lb.-ft. which means this model has more torque than the diesel version of the Wrangler. Currently, the 4xe model is offered on four-door Unlimited models with three trims offered which are Sahara, High Altitude, and Rubicon.

Drive Modes for the Jeep Wrangler 4xe

Sitting to the left of the steering wheel are some buttons that indicate the drive selection. Electric iseasy to understand, E-Save uses the engine to keep the batteries charged up, and a blue button makes it easy for you to capture the most energy from the regenerative braking system. This SUV might sound like it’s about fuel mileage, but it’s really about giving you more power for the drive.
