Cadillac is Out Testing What We Expect is the CT5
The announcement that Cadillac will continue to offer sedans for us to drive and will replace three models with two over the next few years.
With the 2020 model year being the goal for the Cadillac CT5 sedan, another testing model has been out on the roads around Milford, MI near the GM Proving Ground. Cadillac has tried to make sure the testing versions of the CT5 don’t look like a Cadillac at all.
Is it a Charger or a Cadillac
Because the new Cadillac CT5 is a car that could be similar in size to the Dodge Charger, the GM team has worked hard at making the testing cars they take out to the track and on the roads look as much like the crosstown model as possible. Don’t let the backward C-shaped detail on the front doors, large hood scoop, or rear light bar fool you, the models that have been spotted are Cadillac CT5 vehicles that certainly could be offered for the 2020 model year as the sedan you want to enjoy driving.
What we do know about the CT5 is the fact that it will bring a heavy influence from the Escala concept that was offered at one of the previous car shows. As one of the most attractive and an award-winning concept model, the Escala is a car we hoped would make it to the market. Even though we’re not going to have an actual production version of the pure Escala model, there’s plenty of inspiration in this vehicle to let you know you’re getting a beauty of a car when it shows up by the end of next year.
Early in its Development, The CT5 Brings What You Want
Even though we haven’t gotten to see the full view of what the CT5 will be and Cadillac continues to work hard to hide the details when this car is out on test runs, we can imagine what might be found under the hood. This car may be one that makes use of the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, but will certainly be powered by the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 when it arrives. We’re not sure if the 4.2-liter twin-turbocharged V8 will be used for the CT5, but it could be as well.
Other items we might see in the new CT5 include a 48V mild hybrid system, an excellent RWD layout, and the new ten-speed automatic transmission. You know there will likely be an AWD option for this sedan, but learning what the CT5 will actually have for you will be a waiting game for a few more months. This is the car that’s expected to replace the sedan models of the ATS and CTS in the lineup with another sedan making its way to the market shortly after the CT5 arrives for us to drive and enjoy on the road.
