Cadillac Continues to Prepared for a Lineup Expanse
At one time in history, the Cadillac brand had a number of models on the roads that we drive and made it easy for us to choose this brand over those that come from Germany.
Even though the Cadillac brand lost some luster for a while, recent years have shown us this brand is ready to be taken seriously once again. The CT6 has become the flagship sedan of the brand and the XT5 has led the way as the midsize crossover SUV with all the luxury features desired for the drive.
Ensuring Names are Available
Most automakers have learned that it’s important to reserve names for a later date if you want to use them. With this in mind, the Cadillac team has filed to reserve several names for sedans and crossovers that could be used in the future. These names are CT2, CT3, CT4, CT5, CT7, and CT8 along with XT2, XT3, XT6, XT7, and XT8. Does this mean we’re going to see eleven more new models form the Cadillac brand in the near future? Not necessarily, but it does allow us to know that Cadillac has the names ready if needed.
The Future of Cadillac
Right now, the Cadillac brand lineup that uses these names includes the CT6, XT4, and XT5. The CT5 and CT4 are on the way, but that only puts us up to five models that fit this naming scheme. The total number we could see if all names are used comes to fourteen, which would be a huge jump for the brand. We already know the ATS, CTS, and XTS are all being replaced and the CT4 and CT5 will take their places, but what about the Escalade? With this new naming strategy, it’s possible the CT8 could be the next versions of this big luxury SUV.
Why So Many Names?
Expecting the Cadillac brand to move from the numbers we see now to fourteen different models is certainly an enormous increase in the numbers. The fact is, automakers reserve names so they can be used in the future. One example of this was BMW which reserved the names i1 through i9 in 2010 but so far they have only used two of them with the i3 and i8 models on the road. Another example of this reasoning is Tesla which wanted to use Model E as the name for its affordable sedan and had to settle for the Model 3 because another company already had the name.
Now We Move Forward
With all these names reserved, the Cadillac brand has the freedom to develop more models for the driving pleasure on the roads and keep the naming scheme alive that’s been created. Will we see an XT2 to take on the likes of the BMW X1 or possibly the CT2 that could go up against the M2 from the same brand? The future of possibilities is open for the Cadillac brand to offer us what we want in the luxury market.
