GMC Helps Provide Support to Wounded Veterans

When you purchase a new GMC vehicle, you can rest assured you’re helping a much bigger cause, our nation’s wounded war veterans.
Only those who serve in the military, on a police force, as a fire fighter, or in emergency services understand the dedication and the commitment it takes to make out a check to the government in the amount of “service and time up to and including death”. Those who have done so at one time in their lives are called veterans when they’ve served in the military and many have come home from foreign wars missing limbs, having gone through traumatic experiences, or have been permanently damaged in battles that were fought with the goal of defending our nation and the freedoms we hold dear.

Many different organizations have been created to help veterans over the past several years and GMC has partnered with the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation to continue to offer support. Recently, the sixth annual Honoring our Heroes Gala to benefit the foundation’s Smart Home Program and the Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund of Michigan was held. GM has a strong history of supporting the military and the GMC Professional Grad identity is the perfect fit for these organizations to share the philosophy and offer the support needed.

The Smart Home Program Supported by GMC

Three ways that GMC has aided veterans overs their history are with jobs, vehicles, and homes. GM currently employs 5,000 vets and will hire 500 more this year. They also offer military discounts and a program that now includes the First Responders to emergencies around the world to make sure vehicles are more affordable for veterans. With the help of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation and the Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund of Michigan, GMC is working to help place vets in Smart Homes that will help them live their lives on their terms. In turn, when you buy your new GMC Terrain, Acadia, Sierra, or otherwise, you’re helping GMC to make all this possible.
The Smart Home Program allows the partnership of these organizations to build custom-designed mortgage-free homes that will meet the needs of the most catastrophically injured veterans. This foundation is committed to build a minimum of 200 smart homes for these veterans. This work is done by an all-volunteer group of private citizens to provide the financial assistance needed to veterans that were wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan that hail from Michigan after September 11, 2001. This is an amazing way to support the veterans and their families to make sure these folks can have the ability to live their lives the way they want.
Over the past several years, GMC has been at the forefront of this program and has helped to raise more than $8 million toward their support of America’s veterans. Even though you’ve missed the opportunity to assist this program this year, the Gala will be held again next year if you want to participate. You can always make donations to these programs and help veterans who need our support after they’ve arrived home with their battlefield injuries. These veterans stood up for us in protection of our country and GMC, along with their partners, is standing up for them now.
