Auto Sales – The April Winners and Losers

Auto Sales - The April Winners and Losers

Auto sales are tracked all the time for the vehicles that are offered in the automotive market. These sales are tracked monthly to show progress.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the models that we’re able to reach impressive sales for the month of April and then some that didn’t quite make the cut and might need to make some changes to improve for the next few months.

Winners

Jeep Wrangler

This one shouldn’t come as any surprise at all as the Jeep Wrangler has been taking the market by storm with its new generation model and some of the remaining JK models. For April we saw 29,776 Jeep Wrangler’s sold which is a 58 percent increase in auto sales over April of last year. This sales success has helped Jeep move into the 11thposition overall for this year. Sales for Jeep were aided by the Compass and Cherokee that both also experienced impressive numbers for April.

BMW i8

The BMW i8 is one of the most popular and technologically advanced vehicles on the market today and it saw a sales number of 57 models for April. This doesn’t sound like a lot, but for 2017 there were only 488 sold. If you look at the increase of 148 percent for April of this year, you’ll see this car is on track to have 700 of them sold over the entire 2018 calendar year which would be an excellent percentage increase.

Lincoln Navigator

The new model of the Navigator makes it one of the most impressive full-size SUVs on the market. This vehicle is posh, powerful, and seriously attractive. This SUV was sold to 1,566 customers in April which represents an increase of 122 percent in auto sales over last year. This is an excellent start for this new SUV and with the new Aviator on the way, the lights are bright for Lincoln once again as it becomes the brand you’ll certainly turn to for luxury driving.

Losers

Jeep Grand Cherokee

This model will come as a surprise because the Grand Cherokee garners a high level of respect and admiration from most of us. Unfortunately, because the size of this SUV could make it a seven-passenger model and it continues to be built with room for five, the Grand Cherokee has experienced a sales drop of nearly 12 percent for April. There is a potential this SUV will make a swing back to the positive for May, but we’ll have to wait and see if that takes place.

Acura NSX

As one of the most incredible sports cars in the luxury market, you would expect the NSX to have positive sales at all times, but there are always times when there are lulls. Unfortunately for the NSX, that lull in April translated to a drop of 95 percent compared to the previous April because there were only five NSX models sold last month. One month of more than thirty sold will make a complete change to the positive for this model.

Ford Expedition

This SUV is one that’s built on the same platform as the Lincoln Navigator, but even though the luxury version was a winner this month, Ford saw a drop in sales of 22 percent last month compared to the same month last year. For the year, the Expedition has dropped in sales by 15 percent or more which could be a result of the increasing cost of gas at the pump, which has been increasing for the past few months.
