The Geneva Motor Show is where many new vehicles, especially those that are being built in Europe, are shown off to receive the stamp of approval from the public. This show features many new models or upgraded versions of vehicles we already know about along with a plethora of super sports cars and a variety of great luxury brands that make their way to the show for the vehicles we want to drive. This year, Volvo chose to bring its newest version of the XC60 crossover SUV to let us have a look at it before it begins to head into production next month.
The XC60 is an important vehicle in the Volvo lineup and it’s one that represents nearly thirty percent of the global sales for the brand. The current XC60 we have on the market has been around for a little under a decade and is one that has been bought over one million times. For the 2018 model year this SUV has been upgraded to look similar to the other models in the Volvo lineup and give us a great looking and high performing SUV that we can love from every angle.
Under the hood the top trim will be the T8 which offers you the plug-in hybrid powertrain which brings you 407 horsepower and gives this SUV the ability to reach sixty mph in less than 5.3 seconds. There will be two diesel models that will be part of the European market but aren’t likely to make their way to our borders. The base engine offered for the Volvo XC60 SUV will be the one that’s becoming familiar in the form of the 2.0-liter four-cylinder that’s found in the T5 which will provide 254 horsepower and the middle of the engine lineup will offer the T6 which brings in 320 horsepower for your driving pleasure.
As a Volvo model you can expect the XC60 to offer a ton of great safety equipment just like many of the models that have come before it. This SUV will feature the new Steer Assist system that allows the vehicle the help avoid a collision, the Pilot Assist is the Volvo semi-autonomous driving system that will handle the steering and acceleration on well-marked roads at speeds up to 80 mph. This is an SUV that you can enjoy on the road and know the safety systems are in place to help keep you safe.
Inside this SUV you’ll find the new quad-zone automatic climate control system with an air purifier, the Volvo Sensus infotainment system that has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and much more. This is a new Volvo SUV that will be offered at dealerships soon and is certainly a great way for Volvo to celebrate another generation of the vehicle that has meant so much to them. Look for this SUV to be offered in the fall of this year as part of the 2018 model year lineup and you’ll be able to enjoy everything the new XC60 has to offer, and check out AutoGuide’s video on the upcoming SUV.
