With some supercar brands a new model is built off the bones or even off the entire platform of another model. When you look to make a new supercar that will be perfect for you to drive you might consider using the same build over and over again. In fact, if you look at the recent history of what Subaru and Volkswagen are doing, they are building single platforms that are able to have several models produced from them. This is becoming the widespread way to save on the cost of production and even the supercar brands we love are getting into the act.
Recently the next generation of the Aston Martin Vantage was spied testing in the cold but at first look you might not think this is a Vantage model at all. This car looks more like an old DB11 prototype, which would only be visible to those who are familiar with the DB11 vehicle and the cars that were the concept models that were shown before it was produced at all. The difference that’s immediately visible is the fact that the car which was spied is shorter than the DB11 because it’s not the DB11 at all, it’s the new Vantage.
the DB11 is a 2 + 2 coupe that offers seating for four people to comfortably enjoy the ride in an admirably powerful and fun to drive car. The new Vantage is actual only a two seater making it smaller, shorter and more agile on the road. this new Vantage will use a shorter version of the DB11 aluminum platform to give you a car that’s a bit longer, wider and lower than the current model we enjoy right now. These differences make for an exciting ride for two in the Vantage and for four in the DB11 to give you the ride you’ll want.
Currently the new Vantage is still in the testing phase, but that testing is coming to an end and we expect to see the new Vantage on the road soon enough for us to have a great car to drive. The inside of this car will be purely Aston Martin, but you can certainly expect to see many of the same high tech features that are part of the DB11. Is it possible the DB11 is paving the way to make us love the Vantage more or will the Vantage be the car that follows the DB11 with exactly what we want? The answer is actually “yes” to both questions.
Under the hood of the new Vantage we’ll see a powerful 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 engine that has come from AMG. There may be two different power levels for this engine and there could even be a 5.2-liter V12 which is the same as what the DB11 has under the hood. This would give us a new Vantage V12 model that would be excellent to drive. This car will have a standard six-speed manual transmission and we’re not told if there will be an automatic transmission and it wouldn’t break any hearts for no automatic to be offered.
The new Vantage is expected to be on the market in the fall of 2017 as the new 2017 model year version and we’ll see the convertible models in 2018. This car is extremely exciting and will be a great car for us to admire and for those who want to enjoy the ride to have the Vantage they’ve been looking for.
