When we buy a new vehicle we expect it to be reliable and offer us the drive and enjoyment we want for many miles of worry-free driving. Isn’t that why a new vehicle offers a manufacturer’s warranty in the first place? Even though we know that anything mechanical, and now that vehicles have become more advanced, anything computerized, can eventually let you down and cause you to have issues with your vehicle it’s not expected when a model is brand new. As a vehicle gets older some repairs are expected and some parts that wear out and need replaced can certainly be expected.
While the 2010 to 2012 years are only a few years ago, the way we drive means that models which were sold for these years are typically higher in miles already and may have even turned past the 100,000 mile mark depending upon your driving habits. Even if you’ve had your vehicle since it was new and it’s never given you any trouble, the fact is there could be some issues you need to handle to make sure your vehicle is safe and won’t give you a problem in the future.
If you happen to have a Ford SUV that was made during the timeframe mentioned you need to pay attention to this post. Ford is about to recall 412,000 SUV models around the world because they could potentially have fuel leaks that could cause fires. This would be a silent and hard to detect issue that you wouldn’t know is happening unless you happen to smell gasoline when the vehicle is parked or while driving. Another indicator of a problem could be a severe drop in fuel mileage from a tank of gas, but you will want to have this issue taken care of right away.
This recall affects Ford Escape models from 2010 to 2012 and Mercury Mariner models that were built in 2010 and 2011. These vehicles are the ones powered by the 3.0-liter flex-fuel V6 engines. The trouble can be caused by a part in the fuel supply line that can develop a crack and leak gasoline which can then catch fire as the gasoline is leaked into extremely hot areas of the vehicle. So far, not accidents have been reported in relation to this problem and most of the SUVs that are being recalled are in the North American market.
If you have an Escape or Mariner from this time period you need to follow this recall and be ready to bring your vehicle in to be checked. The recall notices will be sent out during the week of December 12 to let you know where you can take your vehicle and have it looked at to find out if your vehicle is part of this recall notice. Don’t hesitate with this issue, you wouldn’t want your vehicle to catch fire while you’re driving down the road and the part that can fail you could already be cracked and the issue just be a matter of time.
