The Dodge Viper is a subtle sports car in the same way the Concord is a small biplane that has little range. This car is one of the most overt and insane sports cars on the market and we love it for it. When you want a car that challenges your driving capabilities and expects you to know how to handle what it has to offer, the Viper is the car for you. This car is ready to hit the track and be unleashed like the beast it is, are you ready to see if you can charm this particular snake.
It’s a sports car, meaning we have to talk engines first. The Viper is powered by a massive 8.4-liter V10 engine which offers up 645 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque sent directly to the rear wheels. If this naturally aspirated setup isn’t enough you get to enjoy the six-speed manual transmission for the shifting of this powerful monster. There is no automatic option or an AWD but this car is light to the touch and shifts smooth and easy to give you plenty of control of what should be described as a car that is insanely out of control.
If you have a bucket list of items you want to enjoy you should have driving a Dodge Viper on that list. The experience is similar to running with the bulls in Pamplona and offers you the same adrenaline rush you would get in Spain. The awesome power and angry sounds coming from the engine will get your heart pumping faster and the tight suspension and direct steering make this car one you can whip around the track while the car begs you to go harder and push it farther than ever before just to see if you can take it; the Viper certainly can take whatever you throw its way.
The Viper is an American muscle car crossed with a supercar to come up with something that we all want to drive. For 2016 the Viper offers a new track car for you to select, the Viper ACR. This car gives you upgrades such as Carbon Ceramic Brakes, improved aerodynamics, suspension improvements and other performance bits to give you a car that is at home on the track but is still legal to drive on the streets whenever you need to.
With the Viper you can’t be a budget person. This car starts out at a price of $91,000, which is actually a drop of nearly $15,000 in the price compared to the previous model. This does come with the gas guzzler tax added on, but this is a car you want for some track time and to impress your neighbors. Moving up to the GTS you will pay a little over $112,000 and the ACR will command a price that begins above the $120,000 mark.
When you choose the Viper you are making a serious commitment to power and performance. This car comes with an 8.4-inch Uconnect touch screen, a navigation system, Bluetooth wireless connectivity, a 12-speaker Harmon/Kardon audio system, cruise control, a rearview camera, a universal garage door opener and automatic climate controls. While this is a great car to choose, there are some upgrades you will want that will only cost you a bit more money. The base model can be upgraded with the TA package which adds special tires and suspension improvements to give you a car that is ready for the track.
If you pick the GT model you add leather seats, an option for sport bucket seats, a two-mode suspension upgrade and a power driver’s seat. The GTS adds the “Venom” polished aluminum wheels and an 18-speaker audio system. The track ready ACD gives you the performance upgrades previously mentioned, a three-speaker audio system and manual adjusting seats to help save on the weight of the car.
The Dodge Viper is one of the most impressive cars to every prowl the roads and tracks of the world. This car may be the right one for you. Do you want a sports car that can challenge your driving skills; try this car and hang on?
