Another Disappearing Act at Play
Over the past three decades we have seen many more cars change from RWD to FWD. The RWD that we love is perfect for the performance we desire in our sports cars and luxury machines that are meant for us to enjoy the drive. The reason we see the move toward FWD is due to fuel mileage restrictions and regulations that are working their way into the market. You can still buy some great RWD vehicles at reasonable prices, but you do need to act soon before your favorite performance machine is gone from the market and replaced with a FWD model.
Chevrolet SS – This car has already been slated for the chopping block, even though this fire-breathing car is a performance beast disguised as a family sedan. With an acceleration that will take you to sixty mph in only five seconds this is a car you absolutely want to drive. If you want 415 horsepower in RWD for a good price you need to act now as this car may not be on the market at all next year.
Nissan 370Z – The Z car has been around nearly as long as the Mustang and is a symbol of performance from Nissan. Using a 3.7-liter V6 engine that produces 332 horsepower this is a car that you can take to the track or enjoy on an open country road. Will the next Z car have RWD or will we see it change to FWD?
Chrysler 300/Dodge Charger – The large sedan of the 300 and the performance sportiness of the Charger give us two awesome sedans that have used RWD in their heavy but powerful builds for many years. Are we about to see the change to a FWD or will these two be allowed to continue on as RWD models?
Dodge Challenger – This is the sports car from FCA that we have loved to see in the Hellcat model but it comes in more affordable versions as well with the RWD installed. This is a great choice as you not only get a RWD setup you also get to enjoy a manual transmission which makes it great for purists.
Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ/Toyota 86 – This is the car that simply wears different badges or skins but is basically the same underneath. As a great car to drive you get to enjoy the RWD and the 200 horsepower which is more than enough to make this car one that can be a lot of fun to enjoy. You can also choose a manual transmission for this particular car as well.
Hyundai Genesis – This may be a difficult change to make as the Genesis is transitioning to a new brand name to be the luxury brand offered by Hyundai. With plenty of power and a luxury interior the Genesis Coupe is affordable and uses RWD, but will we see that continue when the Genesis name is a brand and not just a car?
Mazda MX-5 Miata – We know this car means fun on the road and is the poster car for the “zoom zoom” mantra from Mazda. as one of the most iconic roadsters on the market today this car is affordable, fast, fun and dynamic, giving you a car that is great to drive.
Chevrolet Camaro – One of the most iconic and recognizable names on the road is the Camaro and it comes in many different forms. If you want an affordable model you can have the V6 engine but you can also move up to the ZL1 or the Z/28 when it comes to the market and have the RWD that you want to enjoy. The Camaro might be one of the last cars to change from RWD, but it may have to eventually.
Ford Mustang – The Mustang is one of the longest running nameplates on the market as a car that has been a lot of fun to drive. You can enjoy an RWD model that comes in at an affordable price to still have plenty of great power to have fun on the road. Of course there are several engines to choose from and power levels you can enjoy in this awesome sports car.
