A Resurrection of a Name

03.13.16 - Apollo Arrow

Do you remember the Gumpert Apollo? That car was super ugly, but it was also super-fast as one of the quickest cars to make the run around the Nurburgring track. Even though this car was quick and really able to get things done when it came to speed the name and the look didn’t do the car any justice and things had to change in order to maintain the possibility that the name and company would be able to survive. With new investment money from a Hong Kong based company Roland Gumpert has been able to turn the tables and brings us something special to enjoy.

Making its debut at the Geneva Motor Show the new Apollo Arrow shows up as the answer to the problems Gumpert had faced. Using the Apollo name as the brand name gives us a name that is much easier to live with and a car that just looks seriously fast. With a low and sleek profile that hugs the pavement perfectly this Apollo is ready to make its mark on the world and be in the possession of 100 lucky wealthy owners as this car will certainly cost a lot to purchase.

The body of the Arrow has been inspired by sharks with fins showing up in many places and a rounded nose that makes it look like the car is about to take a bite out of something. While we don’t have all the details of the suspension, aerodynamics or the interior it’s pretty easy to see that this car is one only a few will be able to own and drive but for those who do it will be a car that brings them the pleasure on the track they desire to enjoy some weekend excitement.

What we do know is the Arrow is powered by a 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 engine that makes 1,000 horsepower. This engine has been sourced from Audi and is magnificent in its performance. To go along with this horsepower is the 740 lb.-ft. of torque you will enjoy which gives us a speed we can easily admire. The car is expected to reach sixty mph in less than 2.9 seconds and offers up a top speed of 220 mph. While not the fastest car on the planet these are numbers you don’t find every day which makes them a lot of fun to discuss.

Will the name Apollo Arrow carry the success for Roland Gumpert that the Gumpert Apollo couldn’t? It certainly should since this new name rolls off the tongue much easier than the old one. Of course it does help that this new car has so many great looking lines and one of the most attractive shapes we have ever seen to be a car that anyone who admires a serious exotic car that looks like it belongs on a track will be able to enjoy. Most of us will only get to admire this car from afar, but a few lucky customers will really experience what this new creation is all about.
