When it comes to the automotive world it seems when there is a rumor there is typically a lot of truth behind it. Many times automakers leak the rumors of what they are working on to help create excitement in the marketplace so that we put their brand name and products to the front of our minds. Other times these rumors are true leaks that were not expected to happen and we see the leaders of the company stand up and shout down the rumors only to have them show up as reality a few months later.
The old saying “where there’s smoke; there’s fire” is never so true as in the automotive industry. How often do you see spy shots of cars with the weird looking camouflage on them that barely hide what the car is going to look like when it makes its way to production? Many times automakers would be better off just putting an awesome paint job on the car and showing it off on their own test course so we could get a look and feel for the car right up front, but this seems to be a cat and mouse game that continues to play out.
One rumor that has surfaced that I certainly hope is true is that Jaguar is making another version of their already loud and proud F-Type. Currently there are two version of this awesome sports car; the base model (which is anything but base) and the R model. The R model is the performance beast of the pair, even though the base build is no slouch, and it features a 550 horsepower supercharged V8 engine with AWD and the kind of speed and power that will make anyone blush as it loudly screams by on any road.
The rumor mill tells us that Jaguar is preparing to turn to their own in-house performance team of SVR and let them do what they will with the F-Type. The expectation is that SVR could add a package to this exciting brute that gives it 25 more horsepower, carbon ceramic brakes, improved suspension tuning, an aerodynamics package that includes a large rear spoiler and a titanium exhaust that will be even louder than the one we currently enjoy o the F-Type R. The result of all these improvements is anticipated to be a tip speed of 200 mph for this already awesome sports car.
Will this actually take place? That question may be answered much sooner than you might expect. If SVR is to get their hands on the F-Type they will certainly be ready to unveil this new model as early as March at the Geneva Auto Show. Until that time we get to sit back and wonder “what if” about the F-Type that may come with an SVR at the end of it. For my interest, I certainly hope they do unleash the beast and let this glorious rumor become truth, the F-Type deserves it and so do those of us who simply love this car.
