What are you supposed to do when you are one of the world’s best skiers and want to ride up to the slopes around the world in a car that is made not only to handle the drive into these altitudes but also offers a massive amount of performance? When that is the case, your name is most likely Jon Olsson and you have already rolled up in several different high powered and high performance cars of different variety, but the new challenge is taking a family-oriented car and turning it into a true badass for the ski crowd to gawk at.
This was the challenge facing Olsson and the Audi RS6 he chose as his next slope driving vehicle. As practical as the RS6 is without modifications, Olsson wanted something that would actually show off his flair for the exciting and give him power to take on other cars while still having his skis in the roof box above. For this challenge he turned to Koenigsegg’s former chief engineer at Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) which is the hyper-tech company German car engineers turn to when they want touring cars made for more than just touring.
The looks of the RS6 were completely updated to create an aerodynamic, carbon-fiber clad wagon that looks mean and ready to race, but the true challenge was under the hood, where the muscle must have the necessary features to be a great way for the car to rocket itself past others. The engine inside this beast is 4.0-liter V8 that with the addition of turbo chargers increased the horsepower from 552 to 950 when gasoline is purchased at a pump in town, but if Olsson gets the high-octane gas from a race track, the horsepower moves past 1,000 with ease.
The biggest challenge that faced DTM was building the right roofbox for this super powered RS6. It took over a year to final build a box that would cut the wind, not take away from the aero of the car and still be able to accept a pair of skis a pro like Olsson would be using. By adding this dimension, this awesome RS6 was now not only a great daily driver, but one that would handle all the gear heading up to the slopes for the weekend or for a race from the top of the mountain on down.
This RS6 is just one example of what some of the high profile racers and personalities around the world look for from their cars. The desire to have a car that can be driven every day but still offer enough power to head out to the track for some unleashed fun is one that seems to be sweeping through the high profile crowds, making it easier for them to select one car and not have the need to change just to make a strong track run. Olsson will take his RS6 on a world tour of skiing that will start in Stockholm and makes it was to Las Vegas, so there is a chance we might be able to witness the car and owner at some point in the near future.
