Volkswagen has announced a plethora of new technologies that’ll be making their way into the German automaker’s vehicles in the near future. At the forefront of these technologies is a new diesel engine that displaces a mere 2.0 liters while churning out a whopping 268 horsepower. While a torque figure hasn’t been mentioned, Autoweek claims the figure will be somewhere 370 pound-feet or more.
The company already has a 2.0-liter diesel engine that delivers 236 horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque, but with the addition of a variable valve timing system, further optimizing the gas exchange cycles, and installing an electrically-driven turbocharger, those legendary German engineers have managed to boost the horsepower to the aforementioned 268 mark, according to Motor Authority.
Yet another impressive innovation is the introduction of a new ten-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Volkswagen introduced the world’s first production DSG in its German-market Golf R32 back in 2003 and unleashed the technology globally on the Audi TT shortly after. With several other manufacturers rolling out conventional torque-converter automatics with better speeds, however, the company getting back ahead of the curve with this new ten-speed unit.
