Chevrolet’s Corvette Stingray is too loud for the South Korean market
Despite some impressive effort from Hyundai Motors, and even Kia Motors, South Korea is still lacking when it comes to great performance cars. Apparently the country’s noise regulations on automobiles are to blame for this, which is also the reason why the Corvette Stingray might not be coming to the country, according to Autoblog.
Chevrolet wants to make the Corvette Stingray a more globalized car, which is why the muscle car will be available in markets that previous generations didn’t have much of a presence in, a strategy which usually proves to be very successful. Unfortunately for the American automaker, the legal framework in South Korea prevents them from releasing the vehicle there.
“The launch of the seventh-generation Corvette is being delayed indefinitely due to Korea’s regulation on automobile noise,” said Chevrolet Korea CEO Sergio Rocha, as quoted by GM Authority. “Although such regulatory stance may benefit the industry in the short run, I wonder if that’s something that should be in place for a long time.”
