Hyundai Motors has done quite well with transforming the Genesis. Whereas the first generation vehicle was a novel take on a segment that has traditionally been dominated by German firms, with hints of luxury but an overall subpar effort, the South Korean automaker’s next generation Genesis is actually a true shot across the bow of the perceived German stranglehold on the world of luxury sedans.
At this year’s Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show, Hyundai will show off a supercharged Genesis sedan, tuned by ARK Performance, that it calls the AR550. ARK used the 420-hp 5.0-liter V8 engine that power’s the 2015 Genesis as a starting point, then added a Rotrex supercharger kit, a race-spec driveshaft, a performance intake, and an upgraded engine management system to produce 550 hp.
The outside of the car received some tweaks as well, with aggressive fascia upgrades in the front and the rear. The look will additionally be set off by a set of lightweight forged wheels. Other changes that ARK made include an air suspension from AirREX, beefier Brembo front & rear brakes, and ARK knuckles and control arms. The interior was revised with some touches that Hyundai claims will make it somewhat similar to a corporate jet, with diamond-stitched seat covers were installed from Katzkin.
