General Motors will be unveiling its next generation Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, according to the chief marketing officer for Chevrolet, Tim Mahoney, in an announcement at the Management Briefing Seminars near Traverse City.
“This vehicle will be better than ever,” Mahoney said. “For me, it’s really the purest expression of ‘Find New Roads’ if ever there was one: advanced technology at its soul and innovation at its heart. It’s the kind of technology that has set Chevrolet apart.”
As of yet, general Motors has declined to release details on the price of the vehicle or how far it will be able to travel on a full charge. The current generation Chevrolet Volt can travel around 40 miles on electricity alone before it needs to switch over to gasoline. Many customers have expressed their desire to see the vehicle travel much farther on a single charge before they consider buying one.
Mahoney said that 69% of all Chevrolet Volt sales are conquests, which means that the car is bringing in new people to both the brand and General Motors. Sales for the vehicle have fallen slightly, and is now being outsold by the smaller, all-electric Nissan Leaf, and is also facing heavy competition for the Tesla Model S.
