Over 40,000 Land Rovers are being recalled due to an airbag issue
Jaguar Land Rover has announced that it’s recalling over 40,000 of its smaller SUVs in the United States and Canada due to an issue with their airbags. In the affected vehicles, the airbag in the front passenger seat may not deploy due to a problem with the restraint control module, which will be replaced where needed as part of the company’s recall.
There are many airbag systems which are designed to not deploy in the event that a child is sitting in the front seat. However, Jaguar Land Rover said that the issue with its systems could cause this signal to disable the airbag even when there is an adult in the seat. There have been, as of yet, no reports of accidents or injuries relating to this issue, but the company isn’t taking any chances.
Jaguar Land Rover has said that updating the software in the affected models, 17,066 LR2s from 2010-2015 and 23,485 Evoques from 2012-2013, would prevent this issue, and that it would notify owners. A spokesman for the company said that he didn’t know whether the recall would affect SUVs in markets outside of the United States and Canada.
