Infiniti took a big hit a few weeks ago after its CEO, Johan de Nysschen, left the company for Cadillac after having worked there for two years. De Nysschen was the one who spearheaded change within the Japanese luxury car brand and was one of the biggest champions of the Q50 Eau Rouge.
Infiniti may be down, but it’s certainly not out. There are still plans on the table that de Nysschen put into place prior to leaving the company, and that could mean a very bright future for the AWOL LE sedan as well as other models.
The company promised back in 2012 that it would bring the LE to the marker as a premium electric sedan by 2014. The sedan was supposed to have the same battery pack as the Nissan Leaf, but with a more powerful 134-horsepower motor. The luxury EV, however, was shelves, but de Nysschen promised that the idea wasn’t dead.
Now it looks like it’s being resurrected, as the LE has reportedly been rescheduled to launch sometime in 2017 or 2018. The latest version will come equipped with the Leaf platform, but with a more potent battery that will give it a range of over 90 miles.
