Big trucks, big hauls, the American way of doing things; just like the commercials show a beautiful truck working like a dog to pull it push it or haul it, whatever it might be. Big trucks have been a part of our culture for many years, and will be for many years to come.
Include in that the ability of a four door pickup to not only bring the gear and the supplies, but the workforce as well. With seating for five to six depending on the configuration, these trucks can show up at an empty site with a full load and leave for the day with an empty load and a full day of work to show for it. Whether building a shed, ball field, tree fort, or park, trucks are what are needed to get the job done, but which one is the best?
Ford F150
The 2014 version of the F150 is still “built Ford tough” as always. What defines this toughness, according to Bill Summers Ford dealership the definition is boiled down to four main characteristics, horsepower, torque, standard axle ratio, and truck bed volume; giving a measure to be seen.
The horsepower is obvious to any regular car guy or even the simple passerby; the more horse galloping under the hood the faster the vehicle is capable of going and for a longer duration. In trucks, this is aided by the torque to provide real strength when hauling and towing loads.
The torque gives that strength just mentioned, whether it’s to pull another vehicle from the mud, take a heavy load to the jobsite, or any other “truck” type of task, the torque is the real muscle beneath the horsepower to really get the job done, according to Indianapolis Ford dealers.
Standard axle ratio allows for the wheels to turn faster with higher ratios and not as much with the lower ratios. A lower ratio is desirable for trucks to add to the torque power when moving the load.
Truck bed volume is a gimme. The larger the volume the more stuff can be stuffed into the bed of any truck. That one is the most obvious of the four.
When compared, the 2014 models of F150, Ram, and Silverado showed up with the following:
By this measure, the F150 out performs both Silverado and Ram in the truck bed volume category, shows better than Silverado for horsepower, and better than Ram for Torque. The F150 did come in last for standard axle ratio; overall, it seems the F150 is still a good tough truck to have around.
Dodge Ram
The Ram toughness can be seen as obvious with the previous comparison, but the Ram also offers a wide variety of features and set ups for any truck owner. For the big job, large haul owners the Ram 1500 can be equipped to seat up to six comfortably and possess an eight foot long bed.
With such a large bed and great seating, any job can be accomplished by using the Ram 1500 which also has an option through Miami Dodge dealers to be a highly powered V-6 if needed. The V-6 may lose some of the power normally associated with a V-8, but not so much to make an enormous difference and the gas mileage advantage is huge.
Chevy Silverado
As always, the Silverado is touted as America’s truck and proud to be that. With the Silverado, any owner will be ecstatic to own such a fantastic vehicle. Having a larger cargo bed than both Ram and F150, a hundreds pound greater payload capacity, and the ability to tow a heavier trailer than the others, the Chevy Silverado won in this completion hands down according to Albany Chevrolet dealers through Consumer Reports.
Adding insult to injury, the Silverado has a lower step in height to the cabin and superior handling compared to the Ram, along with this is a better fuel economy saving owners many gallons of gas per year, a huge consideration for many the working professional.
Overall Results
According to Consumer Reports, the F150 barely made the cut to compete and then was an absolute joke compared to both the Ram and Silverado. Both Ram and Silverado have very quiet rides, similar to luxury vehicles, and for an everyday commuter vehicle the panel would choose the Dodge Ram.
However because they were grading trucks on what trucks do, which is to push, pull, and haul everything and anything they can, the panel chose the Silverado as the overall winner stating an owner would be proud to own either the Silverado or Ram.
