Chevrolet Colorado vs. Nissan Frontier; Which Would You Choose?

03.01.17 - Nissan Frontier

When looking at the midsize truck segment of the market there are some that stand out as redesigned and remade for the market and others that haven’t been redesigned in several years. Two examples of this are the Chevrolet Colorado that has been added to the market once again in 2015 to be a truck that’s new and brings in more of what we love and the Nissan Frontier which has carried on for several years without any form of an upgrade over the course of its time on the market.

Both of these trucks have enjoyable interior builds with plenty of comfort and connectivity. The shape and build you’ll enjoy in each one will make it easy for you to handle the job you need with the midsize truck of your choice while also adding the benefit of a drive that’s fun and easy to maintain. You can take either of these trucks to the off road areas and have a great way to drive where you want to go. The difference for each one comes from under the skin and in the mechanical workings of the truck to give you the power and fuel mileage you want.

For the Colorado you have three powertrains to choose from. You can start with the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 200 horsepower, move up to the 3.6-liter V6 that produces 308 horsepower or choose a 2.8-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engine that makes 181 horsepower and 369 lb.-ft. of torque. The V6 can tow as much as 7,000 pounds and the diesel can provide the pulling power up to 7,700 pounds. The fuel mileage is impressive as well with the four-cylinder offering 22 mpg combined and the diesel can give you as much as 30 mpg on the highway.

Under the hood of the Frontier you have two power options to choose from. The base engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that will give you 152 horsepower while the upgraded choice is a 4.0-liter V6 that will give you 261 horsepower from under the hood. This larger engine does provide you with 6,500 pounds of towing capacity and fuel mileage that comes in at 21 mpg on the highway. The smaller engine can tow up to 3,500 pounds if you need a small trailer to take with you out in the wilderness or to the lake.

When you consider these two trucks together you’ll find the Colorado offers you a vast number of options that you just won’t find on the Frontier. As an upgraded model and one that you can configure several different ways, the Colorado makes the best choice when you need to have a truck that’s powerful and capable on all levels. For the lowest price you should go with the Frontier but when you want a truck that can give you more for the money the right choice is the Colorado when you compare these two trucks. The Colorado also adds more connectivity options over the Frontier to allow you to enjoy improved communication options.
