Genesis G90; Finally in the Right Place

02.24.17 - Genesis G90 - 2

It does take time for a mainstream brand, especially one built on the idea of being a frugal choice with great value, to create a luxury spin off brand that can stand on its own. If it weren’t for the Hyundai Genesis the G90 might not have ever come to existence. The Hyundai Equus was the top level luxury sedan under the old name and it was expected to compete with the likes of the Audi A8 and Mercedes-Benz S-Class, but that wasn’t going to happen with the Hyundai badge attached to it.

Now that Genesis has morphed into its own brand as the luxury arm of Hyundai the Genesis G80 and G90 offer us the first two vehicles from this nameplate. The G90 is the model that was formerly the Equus and it certainly has the chops to be a highly competitive flagship luxury sedan that can be the right choice for you when you want something great to drive. This sedan has more than just the right attributes in its build; it comes in at a price you just can’t ignore which is thousands of dollars less than the German competitors in the market.

The starting price point for the 3.3-liter twin turbocharged V6 RWD G90 shows up around $68,000. You can’t even touch the Audi A8 until you reach $82,500 or the Mercedes- Benz S-Class until you get to $96,600. If you want to upgrade the G90 you can move up to an AWD model with the same V6 or head up to a 5.0-liter V8 that pushes out 420 ponies with either RWD or AWD. No matter which version of the powertrain you want you’ll still be thousands less than the other models and still have an amazing full size luxury sedan to drive and enjoy on the road.

This gorgeous full size luxury car has to have something that makes it so affordable, right? Is it missing the safety features you’d expect? Nope, it has items like adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, blind spot detection and front and rear parking sensors. Maybe there are not enough services offered? I doubt, it, the G90 comes with three years/36,000 miles of complimentary scheduled maintenance along with connected services and the service valet during the same time period. The service valet will allow your G90 to be serviced while you make use of a loaner car and your car will be dropped off and picked up where you want it.

There’s nothing missing from this car. It’s elegant, sophisticated, expertly crafted and perfect for you to drive. You’ll love this car on the road and it will be the perfect car for you to enjoy at the height of luxury. The G90 is a car that makes sense when you want the executive vehicle that offers what you need and desire at a price point that’s much easier to afford than any other in this class on the market today.
