The GTI Offers a System that Might Work Too Well

2016 Volkswagen GTI

The fun of driving a Volkswagen GTI has been well-documented.  With a powerful and energetic engine that puts the car out front and gives you the dynamic ride you want from a car that can handle any twist or turn you would think there wouldn’t be anything to complain about.  In reality, there isn’t much to complain about at all, the GTI is an awesome car and brings us the feeling driving excitement at a good price and a useful shape that makes one of the most admired vehicles on the market today.

To start off with, the Volkswagen GTI is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine that offers up 210 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque.  This great engine is attached to the six-speed manual transmission to give us a time to sixty mph of only 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph in a front-wheel drive form.  At a weight of only 3,031 pounds and having seating for five inside the GTI brings us a 25 city/34 hwy mpg and a base price of $25,385 to make it one of the most affordable vehicles from Volkswagen that we have seen for many years.

The driving of the GTI is engaged, dynamic and under control you can whip it around twist and turns to get a ride that is exceptional to enjoy.  With the exceptional suspension and steering performance aboard every ride in the GTI can be a lot of fun.  Add to this the fact you can have as much as 52.7 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats down, which is enormous in a hatchback and gives you the versatility you want from this style of car which is built for function and for fun.

So far the only real complaint about the GTI has been the park assist system which is part of the Driver Assistance Package.  This system has a habit of being too good and causes you to feel you need to ignore it altogether or turn it off.  Even with the system off you can experience some of the beeping and vibrations that come with the system, making it a very annoying alert.  The parking assist system is meant to help you park, but if you get stuck in traffic you might find it yelling at you.  Unfortunately this system has been known to make noise when going through a car wash too; not a feature anyone wants to have to deal with.

Overall, the GTI is an awesome car that offers a lot for the money.  As a VW model the GTI makes a great choice for anyone looking for the right driving performance and the dynamics that make it a leader in this class.  As a hatchback the GTI offers you a fun and versatile vehicle in which to make your daily driving the best possible and give you the ability to handle carrying items, people or both in either part of your daily commute.
