Gett wants to start a pricing war with Uber and Lyft

Gett is one of the newest entrants in the on-demand car-hailing startup market that has been exploding across the globe over the last few months. The company, which is known globally as GetTaxi, announced on Wednesday that it’ll now be paying drivers $0.70 per minute after tax and commission and will give drivers 100% of the customer tips that they earn, permanently.

Uber, one of Gett’s largest competitors, pays its drivers in New York City up to $0.40 per minute as well as an extra $2.15 per mile, but also deducts 20% for commission. Not only does Gett pay more, it’s also offering drivers a $500 bonus if they switch over from a competitor. An initial $500 for completing their first 20 jobs, as well $500 for each driver they recruit for Gett.

This move is Gett’s attempt to capitalize on the fact that numerous drivers for both Uber and Lyft have become frustrated recently, having complained and protested, due to recent cuts to fare prices, increased commissions, and the no-tip policy that both companies have instated.

Ron Srebro, the CEO of Gett, says that the company wants to “pay the drivers the best pay in the industry” and “e the best solution for the drivers.” He also stressed a similar commitment to addressing the needs of the passengers. Gett rolled out a promotional $10.00 flat rate for any ride, to anywhere in Manhattan last month, which will continue until the end of the year.

“Drivers are key to our business, they’re our partners and we want to improve their quality of life,” Srebro said in a press release. “By paying them more, we optimize their time on the road so they can spend more time with their families. One of our drivers recently made $390 in five hours on his very first day driving for Gett, and he was able to call it a day early and go home. Happier drivers make for happier Gett customers and improve everyone’s experience.”
