Chrysler is ramping up production of the 2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel

The Chrysler Group is ramping up production of its 2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel pickup in response to what the American automaker says is “overwhelming demand”. Chrysler on Tuesday announced that it will be increasing the production of the diesel pickup truck from 10% to 20% of its light-duty pickup mix.

Nick Cappa, a Chrysler spokesman, said that customers will now be able to have “easier access to getting their hands on the Ram with the diesel powertrain.” He also mentioned that Ram 1500 EcoDiesel trucks spend a mere 12 days on dealer lots on average, meaning that they’re practically gone as soon as they come onto the lot.

“When the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel opened for orders earlier this year, Ram truck received more than 8,000 requests within three days, which quickly filled the initial allocation for the exclusive powertrain,” said Chrysler in a statement.

According to Bob Hegbloom, the president and CEO of Ram Trucks, said the reason for the diesel truck’s high demand is because of its fuel economy and exclusivity, saying: “Innovation sometimes comes with risk, but being first to market with a diesel engine for the half-ton segment has shown to be a great decision for the Ram brand.”
