Toyota is investing $100 million into its Indiana plant

Toyota Motors announced on Friday that it will be investing $100 million into its manufacturing plant near Princeton, Indiana in order to boost the production of the Japanese automaker’s Highlander SUV, a move which will add another 300 jobs to the plant by 2016.

Officials for the company said that the Highlander’s sales have been very strong since the Indiana plant began producing the cars back in December of last year. Customers bought somewhere around 90,000 highlanders in the first seven months of this year.

The $100 million investment will enable the plant to manufacture up to 30,000 more Highlanders every year for sale in the Australia, New Zealand, and Eastern Europe. The plant, which began production back in 1998, currently has around 4,700 workers, with about 600 having been added since 2012, and another 300 expected to be added by summer 2016.
