2014 Dodge Charger: Not Just a Police Car

With heavy sculpting inside and out, the 2014 Dodge Charger feels like a beast of burden, and it certainly is. A cross between a family sedan with a full line of safety features and a hot rod build and equipped for speed, the 2014 Dodge Charger has made heads turn throughout the country, and not just the criminals the police are chasing.

Offering a full range of engine options, the 2014 Dodge Charger brings fuel economy and power to the pavement to please even the stodgiest of critic. With a suspension package that rivals those on much pricier sports cars, the 2014 Dodge Charger is a pleasure to drive having quick responses to steering changes, and handling those changes with responsiveness and agility normally reserved for lighter and speedier models.

Under the hood the 2014 Dodge Charger offers a load of options with four different engine setups to give the owner choices of power and fuel economy. The base engine is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 offering 292 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque, not bad for a base engine. The fuel economy for this base engine varies with the transmission set up ranging from 18 city/27 hwy mpg for the five-speed automatic, 13 city/19 hwy mpg for the five-speed automatic using E-85 fuel, 19 city/31 hwy mpg for the eight-speed automatic, 14 city/23 hwy mpg for the eight-speed automatic using E-85, 18 city/27 hwy mpg for the AWD version, and finally 14 city/20 hwy mpg for the AWD using the E-85 fuel.

With such a variation of fuel economies on the base engine, the owner has many choices, and since the E-85 fuel is becoming much more popular to use, the 2014 Dodge Charger could be a great choice to offer the power, fuel economy, and use of the E-85 that some customers desire.

The next engine on the list is a 3.6-liter V6 STX with Rallye and Blackout packages bringing good power with 300 horsepower and 264 lb.-ft. of torque. This powerful V6 is no slouch when it comes to fuel economy either offering up 19 city/31 hwy mpg for the rear wheel drive setup and 18 city/27 hwy mpg on the AWD model.

The third engine on the list is where the power really starts to climb with a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 growling in at 370 horsepower and 395 lb.-ft. of torque. This rumbling beast still brings nice fuel efficiency, especially for a V8 engine, offering 15 city/25 hwy mpg for the rear wheel drive model and 15 city/23 hwy mpg on the AWD setup.

Finally, the king of the beasts when it comes to the 2104 Dodge Charger engines is the 6.4-liter Hemi V8 roaring in at 470 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. This truly is the monster under the hood for this model of car. Even with this beast of an engine the fuel mileage isn’t bad at all bringing 14 city/23 hwy mpg.

Inside the 2014 Dodge Charger is a well situated set of instruments, giving the driver all the information they need to enjoy a smooth and comfortable ride. Laid out in great complimentary colors and soft materials, the seats and steering wheel are comfortable to the touch, something not often seen in a vehicle that has the price tag offered on the Charger.

On the outside the 2014 Dodge Charger roars down the street with a gritty front grill, heavy lines sculpted across the body, and huge wheels that range from 17 to 20 inches depending on the choice and package. This car screams “look at me” and many do as it drives along, it is truly a beauty to behold.

The standard equipment offered for the 2014 Dodge Charger is an very nice list including cruise control, keyless Enter-N-Go, remote start, a six speaker audio system with a 4.3 inch touch screen, six way power driver’s seat, 60/40 split folding rear seat, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, and 17-inch wheels. All this is offered on the base SE model, enough to please most any driver, however if the STX model is equipped with fog lights, an 8.4 inch Uconnect tough screen with a 276 watt Alpine audio system, automatic temperature controls, steering wheel mounted cruise and audio functions, and 12 way power front seats all standard. The only standard additions for the R/T models are 18 or 19 inch wheels and some added quickness goodies under the hood.

With such a long list of standard features there might not be room left for optional equipment, but the 2014 Dodge Charger has many of these as well including a performance suspension, rear spoiler, Pitch-Black 20-inch wheels, the Beats audio system, and the Blacktop package with blacked-out trim for the SE model. For the R/T models the options start with a 3.06:1 axle ratio, supportive front seats with suede inserts and a blacked out honeycomb grille. The STX model offers optional features such as the 20-inch Black Chrome wheels and a performance tuned suspension. Optional features that are available for all trim packages are a power sunroof, adaptive cruise control, Garmin navigation, leather seating, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel.

With all the standard features, and the powerful engine, the 2014 Dodge Charger might sound like it should start out with a huge price tag, but comes in at an affordable $27,000 to start for the SE model. When moved up to the STX the starting price is still a reasonable $32,000 and the R/T is only a little higher at $33,000. If a fully loaded Charger is chosen in the R/T Max version the price still only reaches up to $40,000 and at the absolute highest point on the SRT8 model the 2014 Dodge Charger comes in at $48,000, still a great price for all the features, performance, and power the Charger has to offer.

The 2014 Dodge Charger is a beautiful car driving down the street, a great reminder of what American Muscle can be with all the features and desires a family sedan has to offer as well. The Charger is truly a great car for any family or single driver to enjoy while they feel the performance and power under the hood.
