2030 Before Self-Driving Vehicles: IHS
Some would say it’s hard to imagine having a ton of cars on the road that were driving themselves. Others look at the predictions of IHS, and industry analysis firm, and believe that their predictions of cars on the road without drivers in 2030 might be too conservative. Will it really take another 16 years before the technology, much of which is already in testing phases, can actually hit the roads?
They say that’s the approximate time it will take for fully autonomous cars to take to the streets. Driver-assisted cars will be available sooner, but the self-driving cars will be completely hands-, feet, and eyes-free.
According to Automobile Magazine:
The study says costs for autonomous vehicle electronics will predictably come at a premium, likely between $7,000 and $10,000 over regular sticker price in 2025.That number is however expected to fall to $5,000 in 2030 and $3,000 in 2035, as autonomous vehicles gain mass-market traction.
