Expect a Toyota Fuel Cell Vehicle in California in 2015
If you think Toyota set the bar for environmentally-friendly cars with the Prius Hybrid, just wait a couple of years. They’re about to take green to a whole new level – zero.
The Toyota FCV-R concept vehicle is likely to begin production in 2015 and could be released in California in the same year. The technology is there. The only challenge at this point is th infrastructure necessary to keep the vehicles running. After all, it’s not every day that you have to have a hydrogen refueling station handy in order to move.
That’s not keeping many Toyota Dealers from being extremely excited about the prospects.
The hydrogen fuel cell is as green as it can get. They release heat and water as waste material. In other words, there’s really no waste at all emitted from the vehicle. It is expected to have a range over 300 miles on a single fueling. Unlike electric vehicles, the refueling process will be much faster – 3 minutes or less. It won’t only fuel in the same approximate time as a standard fuel vehicle but will cost about the same as well.
According to UPI:
The FCV uses hydrogen to produce at least 100kW of electricity from a fuel cell with only heat and water as byproducts. It’s considered the ultimate zero emissions vehicle.
